ahaz
Ahaz, king of Judah
2 Chr. 27:9 - Ahaz's father,
Jotham, dies, and he begins his reign.
He was 22 years old when he began his reign, and ruled for 16 years (2 Chr. 28:1) (735-720 BC)
He was a wicked king, being idolatrous and did human sacrifice of his own children (2 Chr. 28:3)
Even though the Lord told him, through the prophet Isaiah, that he would be fine (Isa. 7:1-7), he formed an alliance with
Assyria (2 Kings 16:7)
He sent gold and silver from the temple as a tribute to the Assyrians (2 Kings 16:8). He also forced the nobility to give as well (2 Chr. 28:21)
He had pagan altars, similar to the ones in Damascus, built in his kingdom (2 Kings 16:10-11)
He closed the temple, and initiated pagan worship (2 Chr. 28:24-25)
He dies and is buried in Jerusalem (2 Chr. 28:27)
