Rehoboam inherited the united kingdom of Israel under his father Solomon. It was during his reign that the nation initially split between two kingdoms, and he reigned over the kingdom of Judah (see 1 Kings 12), the tribes of Judah and Benjamin (1 Kings 12:21). The kingdom of Israel (ten tribes) named Jeroboam as their first king (1 Kings 12:19-20).
