General Conference - October 2009
- You have the testimony of all your brethren
- Let the evidence of God all around you soften your hearts
- He lives, He loves us
- Your personal knowledge of God will be the greatest gift you can ever give
- Forsaking sins requires time
- Forsake our sins by keeping the commandments
- Relief will come in the timetable of the Lord
- If you are concerned, counsel with your bishop
- Repentance always means that there is greater happiness ahead
- Do not trade what you know for what you do not know
- The Lord requires of you what you can do
- With increased spiritual strength we are able to develop self-mastery and live in moderation
- Security comes from avoiding the excess of this world
- When we sin, we turn away from God. When we repent, we turn towards God.
- Do not set your covenants aside
- The Savior is eager and able to forgive our sins
- For most, repentance is quiet and private
- It's a journey
- We feel the changes we need to make
- Spirituality yields inspiration and power to do it
- "Was there yet more to be given?", "Is there more I should know?"
- The Lord will not force you to learn
- Recall how Satan has influenced you in the past in similar circumstances. Connect the dots, look for a pattern, and be prepared for the distractions
- Even more amazing than modern technology is the ability to access heaven without hardware or software
- Discernment allows saints to see things not visible, and feel things not tangible, see patterns, recognize schemes
- None of the callings are intended for the fame of the person who holds them
- Revelation from God is always compatible with His eternal law
- Patience and perseverance are part of eternal progression
- Unless we lose ourselves in service, there is little purpose to life
- Often we live side-to-side, but do not communicate heart to heart
- How often have you intended to be the one to help?
- We are the Lord's hands here upon earth
- I was in prison, and ye came in unto me
- What have I done for someone today?
- The natural man's tendency is to reject the spiritual heart. Even the sanctified must take heed
- We must identify temptations that easily beset us, and put them out of reach
- Moral discipline is doing what is right because it is right.
- Society has failed to foster moral discipline
- Moral discipline is learned at home
- There must be constant teaching, mostly be example. An occasional reference to a gospel principle will not be enough
- The intelligent use of agency requires knowledge of how things are
- Children should not learn from experience that wickedness was not happiness
