==== The proud shall be brought low ==== * [[Isaiah]] * [[Isaiah 2]] Reading Isaiah 2, he warns against the proud quite a lot (v6-22), warning them what will happen at the time of the Second Coming. I think Alma 12:14 summarizes it nicely: "we would fain be glad if we could command the rocks and the mountains __to fall upon us, to hide us__ from his presence." The message seems to be that, while they are rich in their wordly accounts (v7) and they have sought after a life of worldliness (v8), that when the Lord comes, they will not be forgiven (v9), and they will in agony seek to separate them from themselves (v20-21). The Lord will bring them all low, and He alone will be exalted, and destroy their riches, and their wicked works (the idols: the results of their hands) (v17-18). When we stand before the Lord, everything we have sought with worldly desires will mean nothing. See also 2 Nephi 9:28-30. Isaiah 2 is the first chapter quoted by Nephi (2 Nephi 12). * 2 Ne 2:5 has more than Isaiah 2:5, and is a more tender call to mercy * 2 Ne 12:6 clarifies things a bit too. The Lord has forsaken his people. * 2 Ne 12:10 adds that the Lord will smite them. * 2 Ne 12:12 - the day __soon cometh__ upon every nation * 2 Ne 12:13 - more verbosity * 2 Ne 12:14 - again, like in v12, it shall be upon all nations * 2 Ne 12:16 - upon all the ships of the sea, too * 2 Ne 12:19 - the fear of the Lord shall come upon them .. and smite them * 2 Nephi 12:21 - shall smite them
