** Daniel 1:8 **

Daniel and his friends do not partake of the king's diet.  I read it as them knowingly not partaking of worldliness -- the king of Babylon representing the kingdoms of the world.  Daniel is living //in// the world, but not //of// the world.

He must have also been under some social pressure as well.
