  * The city was mentioned in defining the boundaries of Gad (Joshua 13:24-25)
  * Amman oppressed Israel and was overthrown by Jephthah (Judges 11:4-33)
  * The city was taken by David.  In one of the battles, Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba, was killed (2 Samuel 11; 12:26-29; 1 Chronicles 20:1)
